With this afternoon's news that Brock Lesnar has pulled out of his scheduled Title defense at UFC 106, that card took a major hit. However, with another card in desperate need of a main event, one card's loss is it's gain.
According to a post from Shane Carwin on his Twitter page, the bout has been rescheduled for the January 2nd card, UFC 108.
Per Carwin: "I just heard from Jason. Looks like it is posponed till Jan 2. I had h1ni myself and I understand how devastaing it can be."
So while UFC 106 takes a hit here, the "year-end" card has a much higher drawing main event than if Anderson Silva's elbow is healed to face Vitor Belfort.
UFC 108 is set to take place from Las Vegas, just as UFC 106 will next month.
Penick's Analysis: Well, it still sucks we're not getting this fight AND Ortiz-Griffin II on the same card next month, but the 108 card got a much needed boost for it's main event if this holds true. Lesnar's by far a better draw than Anderson Silva, and if Silva still takes the fight with Vitor he can be the co-main event on one of the bigger drawing cards he's ever fought on. If money is a factor in some of the decisions on fights he's taking he'll have to take into account what the pay-per-view boost will be from Brock Lesnar on this card.
