The UFC's trip to the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, OK, on Wednesday night was a successful one. Bringing in an announced crowd of 7,500, they drew a gate of $650,000 for the event, headlined by Nate Diaz against Melvin Guillard.
The figures were announced by the UFC at the post fight press conference late Wednesday night.
Interestingly enough, the gate was the second largest behind 2008's Fight Night 15 event, which also featured Diaz as the headliner, despite the drop in attendance from the last four Fight Night events.
It was the UFC's first trip to the state of Oklahoma since UFC 4 in 1994.
Penick's Analysis: Obviously the price point was up from their last event, or they simply gave out a ton of free tickets for the April Fight Night event. But it was a very good crowd for last night's event, which was also a good card. The UFC keeps showing that even with average cards the brand brings the fans, and it just means the major events are going to continue to bring in the viewers and money as long as they don't burst the bubble with their price points.
