One of the many idiosyncrasies of longtime UFC vet Diego Sanchez was a self motivating chant he used to employ on his way to the cage, an emphatic repeating of the word "Yes!" which would be co-opted and made famous by pro wrestling star Daniel Bryan in the WWE. Bryan was forced to retire this week, and Sanchez tweeted out his appreciation after the announcement.
You'll always be my favorite thank you for taking the yes chant to superstardom https://t.co/DGj8kEpUen
Penick's Analysis: The "Yes!" chant became a massive thing because of Bryan; a fan of Sanchez's, Bryan took the chant at the time trying to be as obnoxious with it as possible as a heel wrestler, and it eventually turned into the endearing chant used by his fans worldwide. It also wound up becoming a motivating fan chant in other sports, with fans in stadiums breaking into it from time to time. It all began with Sanchez, and the acknowledgement on both sides is a nice pairing.
