Donald Cerrone is being forced to conform to the Reebok uniform policy moving forward, following a significant fine he received in December. The fine came due to a piece of the American flag he had sewed onto his shorts - something he had done in fight after fight prior to the Reebok deal - and to replace that tradition he's now instead teamed up with Ranger Up for a couple of new T-shirts meant to showcase his support for U.S. troops.
"There's a small piece of a flag that I have worn for a very long time in every single one of my fights," Cerrone wrote. "It looks like I can't do that anymore, so I asked my buddy Tim Kennedy if Ranger Up would make me a shirt to show what the flag means to me. They made two. The proceeds aren't going into my pocket. We're going to take some troops to my next fight and have a hell of a good time."
Cerrone headlines UFC Fight Night 83 in Pittsburgh, Penn., later this month on Fox Sports 1.
Penick's Analysis: Good for Cerrone on finding a new outlet to support what he wants to support that isn't going to cost him further in fight after fight. It's unfortunate the UFC couldn't accommodate him via the Reebok deal itself, but instead of being stubborn about it, he was a bit proactive on this end to go a different route, and it should work out for him nicely.
