In one of the strangest moments of MMA intersecting with a wider audience, 69-year-old pop megastar Cher tweeted out in support of the recently suspended Nick Diaz.
The ubiquitous star didn't make any specific comments on Diaz, but passed along the link to a WhiteHouse.gov petition hoping to get the ban lifted.
Penick's Analysis: The petition is now up to over 67,000 signatures, but needs close to 33,000 more by Oct. 16 in order to get a response from the White House. Even then, the petition isn't the most detailed, and even if it gets a response it's unlikely that anything is going to be done from that direction for Diaz. As to Cher tweeting this out, it's surprising that she's aware of Diaz to begin with, but with nearly three million followers, it's possible her tweeting the link helps Diaz's petition get a response.
