Max Holloway and Jeremy Stephens both called out Frankie Edgar for a fight recently, with Edgar saying he was open to either fight. However, the UFC went with Edgar against Chad Mendes, leaving both Holloway and Stephens looking for a fight.
Now they've got one. Against each other.
It was announced late Thursday night that the two will meet at UFC 194 in Las Vegas this December, adding another strong matchup to the card.
Holloway is technically riding a seven-fight winning streak after Charles Oliveira's injury brought an early end to their fight last month in Saskatoon. The 23-year-old has been impressive in that stretch, stopping five of six before the Oliveira bout dating back to a decision loss against UFC 194 headliner Conor McGregor.
As for Stephens, the longtime lightweight dropped to 145 lbs. in May of 2013, winning three straight fights before back to back decision losses to Cub Swanson and Charles Oliveira. He bounced back from those in his last outing, taking out Dennis Bermudez with a flying knee at UFC 189.
UFC 194 hits Las Vegas on Dec. 12, and will be headlined by the UFC Featherweight Championship bout between McGregor and Champ Jose Aldo.
