UFC bantamweight Michael McDonald hasn't appeared in the Octagon since December of 2013, as a number of injuries have kept him on the sidelines, but the 24-year-old may finally be ready to get back into the cage.
According to a report from Wednesday's UFC Tonight program on Fox Sports 1, McDonald has finally been cleared by doctors to return, and hopes to fight before the year is out.
McDonald made his Zuffa debut in the WEC at 19 years old in late 2010, entering the UFC just after his 20th birthday the following March. Four straight UFC wins, including a knockout over former WEC Champ Miguel Torres, earned him a shot at then Interim Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao, but he was submitted in that fight in the fourth round.
Following that loss, McDonald scored a "Submission of the Year" candidate over Brad Pickett before getting submitted himself once again by Urijah Faber. The bout with Faber was his last, and he hopes to plug back into a changed landscape at 135 lbs.
