At 28-years-old, Ronda Rousey has already put together a storied career. She's won an Olympic medal, forced the UFC to bring women's MMA into the fold, stopped opponents in all 12 of her professional fights, and has made the successful transition into film.
As far as her fighting career is concerned, Rousey still feels she's got more to accomplish, but she said this week there's a clear timetable on how soon she plans to be done.
"It just seems unfinished. My career, there's more left to do," Rousey said this week on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast (via MMAFighting.com). "I don't feel like I'm done yet. Because with the Olympics, it's just like you win the gold medal and you're done. With the UFC, when am I really done?
"...But I'm not going to be doing this in my thirties. I don't want to be fighting into my thirties. By thirties, I mean like 31, 32."
For now, Rousey is set to defend her title against Holly Holm in November, and while a future fight with Cris Cyborg is expected, it seems she's ready to wind things down in short order.
Penick's Analysis: This isn't all that surprising. This was never going to be something Rousey did indefinitely, and though her competitive drive remains, she's picking an understandable endpoint for herself. Rousey turns 31 in February of 2018, so if she gives herself year 30 to compete, that's a little more than two years. The pace at which she's been competing could mean anywhere from four to six more fights in that stretch, and if she wins each of those fights in the fashion she's been winning all of them to date, she'll go out as one of the great attractions in the history of this sport.
