Claudia Gadelha is continuing to push back against the narrative that an injury is keeping her from fighting UFC Women's Strawweight Champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Taking to Twitter, Gadelha said she's still nursing the same finger issue from her win over Jessica Aguilar, and has made it clear she's ready to fight Jedrzejczyk when the Champ is ready to return.
Guys, I'm not injured. I'm taking care of my finger that I hurt in my fight with Aguilar. That's it. I will be ready when Joanna is ready.
UFC President Dana White allegedly said this week that Gadelha was injured and couldn't fight Jedrzejczyk, so they were looking at Valerie Letourneau as an option. Gadelha is making sure to let them know that is not the case, as she wants her rematch with the Polish Champion.
Penick's Analysis: If the situation is exactly as it was before, Gadelha should be in that fight. Plain and simple. That's the right fight to make, it's the most competitive matchup to make for that title, and it would be the most exciting fight the UFC can have in that division right now as well. If she can fight by Jan. 2, which is where they initially targeted Jedrzejczyk's next fight, Gadelha should absolutely be her opponent.
