Mauricio "Shogun" Rua kept his career alive earlier this month with a decision win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, but he won't be able to follow up on that win anytime soon.
According to a report from Wednesday's UFC Tonight program on Fox Sports 1, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion will be undergoing surgery on his right shoulder soon, and doesn't have an ETA on his return.
Rua has battled injuries multiple times during his UFC tenure, which has led to a few significant delays. It's also seemingly hampered some of his performances, and has played a part in him losing six of his last ten fights, four of them since December of 2012 alone.
Penick's Analysis: Shogun's fight with Nogueira wasn't the greatest, but it was a solid victory for him to get back in the win column. He's been quite up and down over the last several years, and with getting stopped in three of those recent losses, his time in the sport is absolutely winding down. How he comes back from yet another surgery now becomes another significant question, and past history suggests it's going to be tough for him to successfully come back from.
