"I watched like a little bit of it and I saw some people [talk about it], so I don't know all of the facts. I don't want to just starting talking without knowing all of the facts, but I saw some people said that [Anderson Silva] changed his story like three times. I saw Bas Rutten said that. And my thing is just, everyone is a screw-up. I tweeted this out. But everybody messes up, so people understand that. But people don't like liars. So if you mess up, man, just be honest. People respect that and understand it because everyone messes up. People appreciate honesty. And if you're changing your story three different times, that doesn't sound good. Just fess up... If I would've lost to him, I'd [now] be thinking that [he was on something in those fights]. [But] because I beat him, it's whatever. I'm not putting too much thought into that. It doesn't make a difference if he was on it or not on it."
-UFC Middleweight Champ Chris Weidman talks to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour about Anderson Silva's explanation for his failed drug test to the Nevada Athletic Commission.
Penick's Analysis: The seeming lack of truthfulness to the story - and the increasing ridiculousness and contradictory nature of some of Silva's testimony - all added up to make it seem like he was trying to insult the intelligence of everyone listening. Contrast that with those boxers in that same hearing who admitted to their mistakes and threw themselves at the mercy of the commission. They went light on a couple of the other fighters in those situations, and would have thrown the book at Silva if that had been an option. Silva trying to cast doubt on the proceedings with a ridiculous explanation was never going to fly, and it left him looking worse than before the hearing itself.
