"Emelianenko said he wants a rematch with me? Then UFC will require him to sign a contract. I believe that the right to hold a rematch will not work because he has not fought in three years. If he signs a contract with the UFC, I am not sure that they will give him a title shot immediately. I believe that it would be logical to give him one more fight before the title. Perhaps our rematch could take place in December. New MMA fans know little about Fedor, but the old remember him well... After losing to me and the next two debacles, fans quickly forgot about Fedor. Now it is very convenient moment for his return. He had not lost in a decade. He is a legend. He deserves a rematch, no question about it. I have no problem with facing him in my next fight."
-UFC Heavyweight Champ Fabricio Werdum talks to Sportbox.ru about a potential rematch with Fedor Emelianenko (translated by ).
Penick's Analysis: I simply don't see the UFC giving Emelianenko an immediate title fight, but it's still something they could sell if they went that route. It'd be odd to have a Heavyweight Title fight under lighter weight classes, but if they're serious about running AT&T Stadium, they may stack that card with everything they possibly can think of to make it as big as possible. Regardless, it seems there's legitimate interest on both sides to bring Fedor into the fold, so if they bring him back and he wins a fight or two, a title fight with Werdum could yet happen.
