Khabib Nurmagomedov has given his side of the chaotic brawl with the Diaz brothers at WSOF 22 on Saturday night, and he says he's requested a fight with Nate because of it.
In a post on Instagram, Nurmagomedov said Diaz started swinging after a verbal altercation, but ran from him as things heated up.
"There are simply unrealistic numbers of reports about yesterday's incident," Khabib said (translated via BloodyElbow.com). "I can tell you the truth: fights between males occur, there is nothing unusual about this, but since we are both UFC fighters, this clash was big news. Yesterday we came face-to-face with Nate Diaz and had a verbal argument, and then he began the first fight. I was a professional fighter aware that it was all happening out there. Since it was a live broadcast of the WSOF event, it can be confirmed by the large number of witnesses, so I do not want to describe all the details.
"They [Diaz Brothers] ran from me three times. We'll see what will happen next. I've already asked for a fight with [Nate] from the UFC bosses, but judging by the speed that Diaz ran, it is hard to believe that the fight will take place."
Penick's Analysis: I don't know if the UFC would book a fight based off an incident at another organization's show, but they might. Diaz has been trying to get himself into a significant fight in the division, one which would be against an opponent well above him in the rankings, and I suppose this may be one way to get his wish. Of course, Nurmagomedov is still waiting to return from injury, and Diaz has had complaints about his contract, but as an option there are certainly worse fights to make.
