Fedor Emelianenko is making his return to MMA, and though he's yet to sign with any organization, he's revealed his ideal return opponent.
According to MixFight.ru, during an appearance at a Russian "youth conference" called "Mashuk 2015," Emelianenko was asked whom he'd like to face when he comes back, and his answer was quick and simple:
"Fabricio Werdum."
Emelianenko suffered the first legitimate loss of his MMA career to Werdum in Strikeforce, ending a decade-long run of dominance. He would suffer two more losses in Strikeforce before returning to Russia and Japan for a few fights before retiring.
Now he's set to come back, and wants another shot at the now-UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Penick's Analysis: If he's hoping for a second Werdum fight - one which the Champ himself is very much inclined to take - then we very well may see him in the UFC. I don't know that the UFC gives him that fight right away, but if he came back to action and won a fight, the heavyweight division is such that they could certainly make a justification for that fight. Of course, given some of the other title fights that have been put on as of late, I wouldn't be surprised to see the UFC simply strike with that fight right off the bat.
