"I thought it was a great fight [between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald at UFC 189]. That was a good back-and-forth fight that was really close. I actually had Rory a little bit ahead going into the fourth or the fifth - I think it was the fourth round - and Robbie just brought the pressure up and knocked him out. I think it was a great performance... Yeah I would love to fight Robbie. He's a guy that I have always had a lot of respect for. I beat him in the past and of course I think I'd beat him again. I mean, It would be a tough fight. I think he has improved a lot but I think I have as well."

-WSOF Title challenger, former UFC Title challenger, and former Strikeforce Champion Jake Shields talks to Submission Radio about current UFC Champ Robbie Lawler and wanting another fight with him.

Penick's Analysis: Shields' submission win over Lawler came a little out of nowhere at the time, and started a really rough run for Lawler in Strikeforce. He's gotten himself back to an elite level, and has looked great since returning to the UFC, but at the time that was a slightly surprising loss for him. Now, Shields remains an elite competitor at welterweight himself, and could immediately compete with anyone in the UFC's current top ten were he to find his way back there. It's unlikely at this point, but if it happened, he'd be a game competitor, and given he has a win over Lawler, could immediately plug himself into the crowded mix atop the 170 lb. division.
