A huge heavyweight bout looks to be on the way to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA on October 24th, as multiple reports state this afternoon that Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin have agreed to face each other on the event.

Carwin himself all but confirmed the fight on his Twitter this afternoon with two posts, the first of which was: "Looks like I'll be fighting October 24 in LA. Excited to know."

He then updated that statement with, "Oops I was not supposed to say anything. Got to get used to people watching me. No bout agreement yet. Looks like Cain and I if all goes."

Carwin last fought at UFC 96, where he knocked out Gabriel Gonzaga in the first round. At 11-0, Carwin's gone past the two minute mark in his fights once, in his debut, he's finished all eleven opponents. He's spent a total of 3:24 in the Octagon in his three UFC fights.

Velasquez defeated Cheick Kongo last month in Germany at UFC 99, taking him down multiple times throughout the three round bout and delivering a ton of punishment after recovering from some near knockout blows early in the first and second rounds. Undefeated himself, he's another that has been groomed as an up and coming contender in the heavyweight division.

UFC 104 will air live on pay-per-view, headlined by a Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.

Penick's Analysis: This is a massive heavyweight bout for the UFC, but I'm not entirely sure I would have set it up now. Both could have eventually gone undefeated into separate heavyweight shots, and now one will need to get set back a peg. Still, it will definitely prove which one of them is ready for a shot at the title, as the winner will more than likely be getting a crack at Lesnar or Mir.
