Test results have come back from Jose Aldo's random June 12 drug test, and the UFC Featherweight Champion tested negative for any performance enhancing drugs, according to a report from Combate.com.
There was controversy surrounding the random test, as a test collector named Ben Mosier, representing Drug Free Sport on behalf of the Nevada Athletic Commission, collected a sample initially from Aldo on June 11. However, that sample was thrown out after the Brazilian commission and local authorities got involved, and claimed Mosier did not have a visa to work in Brazil.
Drug Free Sport disputes that claim, and believes they did nothing wrong in sending Mosier on behalf of the NAC.
"In early June 2015, Drug Free Sport was engaged by the Nevada State Athletic Commission ("NSAC") to conduct a single urine test for an athlete in Brazil," said Drug Free Sport COO Chris Guinty in a statement released late last week (via MMAFighting.com). "Drug Free Sport's preparation and execution of the testing event in Brazil complied with ethical best practices in anti-doping collections. Proper work visa applications detailing Drug Free Sport's job functions were submitted to the Brazilian Consulate in Chicago, Illinois on June 18, 2012, and a ten year work visa was issued by the Consulate and relied upon by the Drug Free Sport collector in subsequent testing events. Drug Free Sport does not comment on client program specifics related to any collection event, but the NSAC, the UFC and Drug Free Sport were diligent in their effort to ensure a fair and ethical collection event in Brazil."
Aldo was tested again the next day by the Brazilian commission with Mosier present, and those test results were released on Monday. Check them out below:
Penick's Analysis: The controversy surrounding the June 11 test really doesn't have to do with Aldo himself, because he still submitted to the test and gave a sample. Now, his coach Andre Pederneiras raised the issue with the Brazilian commission, and his actions can be brought into question, but Aldo himself did nothing wrong here. We'll never know if anything would have shown up in that June 11 test, but we now know he passed this one. It ultimately doesn't matter as he isn't fighting on July 11 any longer, but he can move on past this as he recovers and eyes a fall return.
