"The approach for me was I came in and I told them that I was going to destroy everyone in the division. One by one, I would get every single one of them. I said that time and time again. It was never about the champion. It was never about any of that. It was about me destroying every single one of these featherweights, and essentially making it a one-man division. So it doesn't matter what way it happens, whether it's Jose first, Chad first. They're all going to get it. Every single one of them is going to get it."
-Conor McGregor talks to the Las Vegas Review Journal and explains why he has no issue fighting Chad Mendes instead of Jose Aldo at UFC 189.
Penick's Analysis: He's been making comments about the entire division since he entered the organization, so it makes sense that he'd think this way. And it's true, to back up everything he's said against every name in the top ten, beating them is the only way to solidify his status. He's had things to say about Mendes well before they were slated to fight, and that's also been the case for many other names in the division. If he beats Mendes, comes back and beats Aldo, and continues to clear out the division in his own way, he'll prove to be prophetic. If he falls short, well then he wasn't what he thought he was anyway.
