"Chad wants to trade punches with him first. His hands are good. He traded punches with Jose Aldo for five rounds. One round with McGregor is not a problem. He will find some holes in the first round. Chad is a scary guy, he has heavy hands. McGregor will change his mind after Chad lands the first punch. Those who trained and fought him know that. Ricardo Lamas, Clay Guida and others with a good chin went down. Aldo is the only one who didn't go down, but Aldo is Aldo. This trash talker will feel Chad's hands and ask himself 'what the f*** is this? This little guy has got some power.' He hits hard, man.
McGregor has a long neck, long arms to catch. I think he might submit him like 'Cowboy' [Cerrone] with [Edson] Barboza. Chad will rock him, and then tap him. McGregor will get desperate after he eats some punches and will make a mistake... We want to win so we can fight Jose Aldo again. Aldo is Aldo. He's the number one. We want to be the number one, so we have to get past this. We don't turn down fights. We don't care about an interim title. We're thinking about the court jester."
-Chad Mendes' jiu jitsu coach Fabio "Pateta" Prado talks to Guilherme Cruz at MMAFighting.com about next weekend's UFC 189 main event.
Penick's Analysis: Honestly it wouldn't shock me in the least if this fight played out just as Prado lays out here. Mendes landing on McGregor and finishing him on the ground is a very easy finish to visualize, as is Mendes taking McGregor down and finding a way to finish him off there. McGregor's got confidence that he can beat any man, but Prado's also right about Mendes going five rounds with Aldo without going down. It's an intriguing matchup to see how McGregor handles that type of wrestling game, and how Mendes handles the unique striking that McGregor brings with him.
