Lyoto Machida made a quick turnaround from his loss to Luke Rockhold into the fight with Yoel Romero last weekend, but after a destructive loss he's likely to be forced out a much longer period of time.
It was reported on Wednesday's UFC Tonight program on Fox Sports 1 that Machida underwent surgery Sunday in Florida to fix a broken nose suffered in the decisive loss. The damage came during the finish of the fight, as Romero blasted Machida in the face numerous times with elbows in quick succession.
While it was his second loss in a row, and third in his last four fights, Machida's manager says he's not thinking about walking away from the sport; however, the former Champ will be taking some time off.
Penick's Analysis: I wasn't expecting Machida to walk away despite how badly he was beaten the last two times out, but he does need some time to regroup. He may have come back a bit too soon from the loss to Rockhold, but either way it's clear he needs to take a step back and re-evaluate his approach. He's been beaten badly in two straight fights, so he needs to change something in order to be a contender once again.
