UFC Middleweight Champ Chris Weidman caused a bit of a stir today, saying in an interview with MMAMania.com that he's not sure when his next fight's going to come, and suggesting that Luke Rockhold may not be next as had previously been set.
"I don't know when I'm fighting next," Weidman said. "There are rumors that he [Rockhold] might be fighting for a number one contendership against Jacare [Souza] next."
Rockhold has since refuted Weidman's comments, saying the fight is on and the Champ is simply "trolling."
Penick's Analysis: There's no point for a No. 1 contender fight at this point anyway. Whenever Weidman's ready to go, Rockhold will be ready to go, and since New York is no longer an option the fight's probably going to happen by September or October. It really doesn't make sense to go any other route than Weidman-Rockhold right now.
