Jon Jones' potential criminal case off his alleged role in a hit and run in April could be brought before a grand jury soon.
According to the district attorney spokesperson in Bernalillo County, Kayla Anderson, via a report from MMAFighting.com, BC DA Kari Bradenburg "anticipates" bringing the case before a grand jury to seek an official indictment.
"We have requested the outstanding evidence and our office anticipates moving forward when we have a completed case," Anderson says.
However, with medical reports from the alleged victim Vanessa Sonnenberg, along with dispatch reports from the Albuquerque police department. All of that information is needed ahead of time, as they'll need to provide that discovery to Jones' attorneys prior to arraignment.
Said Anderson, "Proceeding with the case without discovery could lead to the dismissal of the case altogether."
Jones, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, remains on indefinite suspension pending the completion of this case.
Penick's Analysis: It's likely they're going to wind up getting the information needed to move ahead, and I'd be shocked if it somehow got dismissed entirely. Regardless, no matter what happens with the case itself, I still have a hard time believing we'll see Jones serve any jail time.
