Thiago Santos took out Steve Bosse Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 70 with a fantastic head kick, taking him out in just 29 seconds. It was an opening he realized would be there for him quite quickly, as he went on to explain at the post-fight press conference.
"I'm a natural striker, starting off with capoiera, then Muay Thai, so I like to use a lot of kicks," Santos said after the event (via MMAJunkie.com). "I started off with the low kick, then I went to the body. I saw he was worried about me hitting his rib cage, so when he defended, I went up to the head, and it was a head kick."
The kick landed flush, and Bosse went down unconscious in a heap. Santos didn't follow him to the ground, taking the walk-off as he knew Bosse was out.
"I saw [he was out] in his eyes, and I saw that he was out and it wasn't worth throwing any other shots," Santos said.
Penick's Analysis: It was short, but it was fantastically excellent. That was a great quick adjustment and recognition of the situation, as he threw that quick body kick, noticed the reaction, and demolished Bosse with the follow up. Now, it wasn't an elite opponent, but Santos looked great, and that's a highlight that can make people interested in his next matchup as well.
