"[The UFC] stuck their neck out for me. I was against the ropes. It's no surprise that if I lost my last fight I probably would have gotten the ax. I appreciate them for giving me the second chance and now it's pretty much my chance to show them that they didn't do a stupid move. I'm working hard and just trying to change my whole career around and I give them all the thanks in the world for doing that... I just take it one fight at a time. When I get to that point I want to make – whatever they give me, I want it to be deserved. I don't want to talk mess. None of that. It's cool for some people but it's not for me. I want to do it the respectful way and earn it. So when I get there everybody knows that I deserve it."
-At the post-fight press conference for UFC Fight Night 70, Lorenz Larkin talks about the UFC giving him a chance to reinvent himself at welterweight, and why he's more than willing to take things slow in the division (transcribed by MMAJunkie.com).
Penick's Analysis: Larkin's wins over John Howard and Santiago Ponzinibbio have been two of his most vicious, and have showcased his speed and striking acumen. He's still got some things to shore up in terms of his defense on the feet, as he still leaves himself open to big strikes in his attempts to score with his own strikes. Still, he's got such creative and entertaining - not to mention effective - output that he makes up for some of those deficiencies. He deserves a chance to start working up the ladder after these two wins, and hopefully he continues to show improvement as he does that.
