"I'm gonna bust Eddie Alvarez's ass up and celebrate in Mexico. I think it's a good fight. It's one I've been waiting for - I like the story behind it and I'm looking forward to fighting Eddie. It's always been out of respect but at times it's got personal, so I'm pumped. I'm looking forward to punching someone and hurting someone and I feel like he feels the same, so it's gonna be a good one. The timing make sense and it's a recipe for a great fight."
-Gilbert Melendez talks to Layzie the Savage about his fight with Eddie Alvarez next month at UFC 188 (transcribed by BloodyElbow.com).
Penick's Analysis: This fight is a long time coming, though it's getting lost in the shuffle a little bit on a card not getting a ton of hype. It's understandable given what's coming in July, and with how many other events are surrounding it, but it's unfortunate because this is one of the better fights scheduled right now outside of the main events coming up. There's been a lot of things said between the two of them over the last few years, and we'll finally get to see them square off, so it should be a very good fight between two talented lightweights come June 13.
