Vitor Belfort is at a bit of a crossroads after his loss to Chris Weidman last weekend at UFC 187. However, while the loss may have ended his run as a title contender, Belfort promises to be back.
In a post to Instagram earlier this week, Belfort expressed how upset he was with his performance, but promised his fans he would be back strong despite the mostly one-sided loss.
"I am always very happy, but I confess that I am still upset with my performance at UFC 187," he wrote. "I was going very well. I'd like to thank all of my family, friends, team, sponsors and fans for all the love and support. I love you all, but now I need to relax and be with my wife @joanapradob and kids.
"I will be back in full strength!" he continued. "I apologize to my Brazilian people and everyone around the world who is part of my time for not bringing the victory.
"It is great to have all of you with me here! I ask that God may bless every single one of you who cry and share laughs with me. See you soon!"
Penick's Analysis: Belfort is obviously going to remain dangerous for most that he faces because of his power and finishing ability. However, the loss to Weidman, mixed with his age and the issues surrounding TRT previously, means it's unlikely he's going to ever get back into the title picture. Of course, should Luke Rockhold capture the title, the fact that he holds a KO win over Rockhold could potentially bring him back there. It's all about how he responds from here, and whether or not he can be as effective post-TRT.
