Benson Henderson is trying to get back to the UFC by this November after suffering an undisclosed injury in training. Though he had some back and forth with Michael Johnson about meeting in Korea, he says he's actually now looking to make a permanent move to the welterweight division.

"I think we decided, my coach and I, John Crouch, to go up to 170 lbs," Henderson said in an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. "We're going to take the time off to rebuild my body. We're going to do a whole new unveiling for 170. I'm trying to walk around at 182 to 185 lbs., walk around at maybe six- or five-percent body fat, and just be explosive. Really open some eyes up with my next fight at 170."

Henderson wants to return on that UFC Fight Night card in Seoul, but first he's got to heal up from the injury. Though he wouldn't go into specifics, he admitted it was in the area of his eye after Johnson stated he'd heard it was a detached retina. Henderson says he likely won't ever reveal exactly what the injury was, but will say it's the hardest thing he's ever dealt with.

"With some of those injuries, you're hurt, you are injured, but the rest of your body feels perfectly fine," Henderson said. "So in that sense, it was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. I felt just fine, I wanted to go do whatever, but not being allowed to even though the rest of your body feels just fine, that kind of sucked. I was kind of sad about that. I probably won't ever actually fully disclose what it is."

Penick's Analysis: Henderson looked quite good on short notice in his 170 lb. debut in February, so putting on a little more size is only liable to help him there if that's going to be a permanent move. As to the injury, while he won't fully say what it is, it certainly seems like the eye injury is a legitimately possible situation. Those can definitely be hard to come back from, because it needs to heal in a completely different way than many other injuries that a fighter can suffer. Regardless, hopefully it is something that heals up effectively to get him back in the cage, because he'll want to follow up on his win from February as best as he can.
