While Dana White won't give a straight answer on the next challenger for the UFC Middleweight Championship, the next UFC Lightweight Title fight is all but set.
With Donald Cerrone scoring his eighth straight win in the Octagon on Saturday at UFC 187, White says his next fight will come against Rafael dos Anjos for that 155 lb. belt.
"'Cowboy' looked insanely good," White said in comments made to ESPN.com after UFC 187. "He kept his composure, put together combinations to the legs and head. He looked unbelievable. I will give you this, yes, Cowboy Cerrone is next in line for a title shot."
It will be a rematch of a fight from August of 2013, Cerrone's last loss prior to his eight fight winning streak. Dos Anjos flustered Cerrone throughout the 15-minute fight, scoring a decision win in the bout.
Penick's Analysis: Eight straight wins and probably two years between the two fights with one another. That's more than enough to justify the rematch, and it's not guaranteed to be the same fight the second time around. With dos Anjos on the shelf for a bit, Cerrone can heal up from the little injuries he was dealing with in this camp. If he's healthy with a full camp, he'll be a challenge for dos Anjos in his first title defense, and Cerrone will get his chance to prove he's gotten better since that first fight two years ago.
