"It was important for me to go out there and try to be exciting coming off that long layoff; Zach Makovsky is a tremendous athlete and we knew each other in and out. I couldn't give the type of performance with him knowing what my strengths were. It kind of looked like two guys trying to play chess out there... [A title shot is] a no-brainer for me. I always still want to beat up Demetrious Johnson and knock him out. There's nothing different for me. I thought I beat him the first time me and him faced each other. I believe the next time we that next time that we come around that the outcome is going to be way different. I'm going to beat him up and I'm going to get a clear victory by knocking him out."
-John Dodson argues for his rematch with UFC Flyweight Champ Demetrious Johnson after his win at UFC 187 over Zach Makovsky (via MMAJunkie.com)
Penick's Analysis: Though the fight wasn't Dodson's greatest on Saturday night, he's still the best option to face "Mighty Mouse." Their first fight was very good, and he was the toughest fight that Johnson's had at flyweight so far. I think it's easy to buy the argument that Makovsky knew him too well, and thus he wasn't quite able to do some of the things he might have been able to do against a different opponent. Still, he won, he's on a winning streak, and there's no one in the division with a much better argument. The only other name that could go in place of him would be Joseph Benavidez, but he's gotten two shots at Johnson already himself, so the UFC isn't likely to put him in there next.
