Chris Weidman is still the UFC Middleweight Champion, as he brutalized Vitor Belfort to score a first round TKO at UFC 187.
It wasn't the easiest for the Champ, as he had to survive an early onslaught that caused some damage, but he took Belfort's best shots on the cage and recovered quite well.
From there, Weidman secured an excellent takedown in the center of the cage, and then quickly passed to mount. Belfort initially tried to defend, but gave up his back briefly before resigning himself to getting mounted.
The challenger tried to fire off some strikes from the bottom, but Weidman postured up and started dropping elbows, hammerfists, and punches. Belfort eventually stopped fighting back, and referee Herb Dean stepped in to call the bout. The win serves as Weidman's third successful defense, and he looks ahead to a likely meeting with Luke Rockhold later this year.
