Chad Mendes has come to terms with the UFC on a brand new eight-fight deal, keeping the featherweight contender locked in to the organization for the foreseeable future.
UFC President Dana White revealed the new deal on Twitter Monday evening.
Mendes, who turned 30 earlier this month, is 12-2 under the Zuffa banner dating back to his time in the WEC. His two losses came against UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, both in title fights. In that most recent loss last October, Mendes gave Aldo one of his toughest fights ever in a "Fight of the Year" candidate.
The Team Alpha Male product bounced back from that decision loss in a big way last month, taking out another former title contender in Ricardo Lamas halfway through the first round at UFC Fight Night 63.
Penick's Analysis: Mendes is a fantastic fighter deserving of a raise, and it's great that he's come to terms on a new deal. While I don't think he's necessarily fighting for the title next, he's an elite 145 lb. fighter, and he's closing in on another potential shot. Hopefully the UFC took care of him with a significant deal this time around, because he's earned it.
