"They didn't give me much of an option. I just want to fight. The guy stepped up. I think it's going to be a great fight... I can't be the guy who says I'll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime and then not take a fight. I have to keep my word. They gave me a new opponent. I just want to fight. That's my mentality. I'm excited... I don't think anyone in the UFC is an easy fight. We're here for a reason. I was really looking forward to fighting Khabib. I've been scheduled to fight him three times now."
-Donald Cerrone discussed his new UFC 187 matchup against John Makdessi in an appearance on Fox Sports 1's UFC Tonight program on Thursday night.
Penick's Analysis: The Makdessi fight is more a curious choice on the UFC's part. Cerrone was going to fight whomever they wanted him to fight, so this one's not about him picking or choosing a name. If the UFC wanted him to fight Josh Thomson, they would have given Josh Thomson the fight. They went a different route, and Cerrone's now got what is a stylistically entertaining tune up fight. Makdessi's power gives him a chance to score an upset, but Cerrone should win, and the UFC can give him a title fight on the back of eight straight wins.
