"Make no mistake about it, this is a sad day for our sport. One of the best fighters of all time has found himself in trouble again. It sucks. Despite our differences, I truly wish the best for Jon and his family, and I know he can get through this. But in life, opportunity knocks, and it's up to you to answer the door. So as I've done time again, I'm answering that door. I will be in Vegas on May 23 - you can count on me - I will win the belt, and then when Jon is ready to return, I will be happy to give him a shot at my belt."

-Danie Cormier comments on Jon Jones getting stripped of the UFC Light Heavyweight Title, and his own shot at that belt against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187, in an interview with MMAFighting.com.

Penick's Analysis: It's such a laughable statement, and precisely why actually stripping Jones and going beyond the suspension rings hollow. If Cormier beats Johnson, he might hold a title around his waist, but he didn't take it from Jones. He got beat by Jones. It's not his title when Jones returns, it's Jones' to reestablish as his own. If Johnson beats Cormier, it's slightly different, because he hasn't lost to Jones, but it's still a bit hollow until he ultimately defeats Jones. If and when Jones comes back, if he beats whomever the Champion is at that time, then whomever that man is won't have ever truly been the Champion.
