It wasn't the prettiest fight, but Quinton "Rampage" Jackson picked up his first UFC win in nearly four years on Saturday night at UFC 186.
It was a tumultuous road just to get back in the Octagon, but after winning his appeal against Bellator's injunction, he stepped back in that cage for the first time since January of 2013 against Fabio Maldonado. The fight was supposed to be a striking-centric matchup, allowing Jackson to have as entertaining a fight as possible, but it didn't quite live up to that.
Jackson was the more active fighter throughout the 15-minute fight, landing some really solid combinations and avoiding much damage from Maldonado. However, after an entertaining and competitive first round, Maldonado just wasn't engaging nearly as much, and the fight just didn't bring a great pace.
The crowd booed down the stretch, though it wasn't directed at the returning former Champion. Ultimately, his hand was raised in a clear decision win, which he hopes is the beginning of a new run in the UFC moving forward.
After the fight, Jackson praised the UFC, saying it was the best organization after he went out and tested that theory. He claims he's back, and is looking forward to getting back in the cage again.
