Earlier this week, Cain Velasquez's coach Javier Mendez said he sees Velasquez destroying Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188, believing the Champion is going to come back stronger than ever.
The challenger responded today in an interview with MMAFighting.com, laughing off Mendez's comments, and saying that it's just Mendez trying to cover for Velasquez not being what he once was.
"Velasquez's coach usually doesn't talk too much, I don't see him talking before the fights, and you can see that his athlete isn't well," Werdum said. "Cain hasn't fought in two years, so he wants to put him back up by talking. If he really is the champion's coach, he doesn't need to talk."
Penick's Analysis: Maybe Mendez is compensating and trying to make it seem like Velasquez will come back stronger than ever. Maybe the Champion actually will. We'll find out on June 13 at UFC 188, and Werdum will have his chance to prove Mendez wrong. We'll see what Velasquez can do once he's back in the cage, and until then, it's all just talk.
