"I really believe I can go out there and shut him down, and his game plan, and corner him and make him fight my fight. Lyoto's dangerous if you allow him to fight his fight. It's not his fight. This is my fight... 'Shogun,' Weidman, Jon Jones – all the guys that were able to implement the pressure and bully him, making him fear some things. Even 'Rampage' had some success. And if you make him fear something, it shuts down a lot of his game. That's the thing: making him fear my striking and hurting him, cutting angles. It's about pressure and keeping him guessing."
-In an interview with MMAJunkie.com ahead of UFC on Fox 15, Luke Rockhold explains what he thinks he needs to do against Lyoto Machida.
Penick's Analysis: While Rockhold's not wrong about pressure being a key to tripping Machida up a bit, that's also something the former Champ is able to take advantage of in his fights. Machida's counter-striking is quite effective against an overzealous opponent, so it's got to be smart pressure from Rockhold to avoid the counters. If Rockhold can implement the type of game he wants to implement in this fight, he very well could walk away with his biggest career win. This is a big moment for him, and he recognizes that. It should make for a fantastic fight either way on Saturday.
