When Jose Aldo went to Dublin for the final stop on the UFC 189 World Tour, he brought along WSOF lightweight Saul Almeida as his translator.

Things nearly came to a head when Conor McGregor reacted to Aldo calling himself the "King of Dublin," snatching Aldo's belt from in front of him in the most talked about moment of the eight-city tour. Almeida, who picked up a win on the undercard of WSOF 20 last week, says it was actually his influence that led to Aldo's comment in the first place.

"I really felt like I wanted to go over there and slap him because of what he did," Almeida said in an interview with MMAjunkie.com. "But the funny thing about that is, he took the belt and he did it because I said something.

"I'm like, 'The first question, before you answer, just say you're the king.' And he was like, 'Yeah, yeah, maybe I'll say that. That will be fun.'"

Almeida's only regret from that moment was that he wasn't close enough to Aldo to grab the belt before McGregor could.

"If I was looking straight on to Aldo, I would have snatched that belt before Conor did," he said, "guarantee you."

Penick's Analysis: Aldo made a concerted effort to talk himself up more for this fight, and he's done an excellent job engaging with McGregor thus far. Taking cues from members of his crew like Almeida is smart, and it's worked, helping him deliver some solid lines of his own while McGregor does his thing. And though it might not be fully natural, it doesn't mean he's faking it, either. He's just letting himself enjoy a role he hadn't really taken on to this point in his career.
