Kevin Rosier, one of the competitors on the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship, has died at the age of 53.
According to a report from MMAFighting.com - citing confirmation from the original mind behind the UFC, Art Davie - Rosier suffered a heart attack Tuesday morning. Rosier had been ill for some time, and had open heart surgery several years ago.
Rosier, a former professional kickboxer and boxer, was one of the eight men who took part in the first UFC tournament. He defeated Zane Frasier with head stomps in the opening round, losing to Gerard Gordeau in the second. He had one more fight at UFC 4, and ultimately lost six of eight MMA fights overall before leaving the sport in 2000.
Penick's Analysis: He's the first of the original UFC competitors to pass, and unfortunately it seems this was inevitable given the previous health issues he was dealing with. Our sincere condolences to Rosier's friends and family for their loss.
