Gunnar Nelson is heading out of Europe for a fight for the first time this July, as the UFC announced on Wednesday that he'll take on John Hathaway at UFC 189 in Las Vegas.
The Icelandic fighter suffered his first career loss in October, dropping a decision to Rick Story in a five round fight in Sweden at UFC Fight Night 53. That snapped a four-fight winning streak inside the Octagon, where he had submitted three of those opponents.
As for Hathaway, the 27-year-old Englishman returns for the first time since last March, where he was knocked out by Dong Hyun Kim at "The Ultimate Fighter: China" Finale. Hathaway has fought just four times since the beginning of 2011, and this has been his third layoff of more than a year in that stretch.
UFC 189 airs live on pay-per-view on July 11, headlined by the Featherweight Championship bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
