An intriguing lightweight bout between Ultimate Fighter 13 winner Tony Ferguson and former Strikeforce Lightweight Champ Josh Thomson is the first set for the UFC Fight Night event in San Diego this July.
The bout was announced on the Fox Sports 1 program "America's Pregame" on Monday afternoon, with the event airing on that network on July 15.
Ferguson is riding high on a five-fight winning streak in the division, a run that has seen him finish four of those opponents. In his most recent outing last month, Ferguson submitted Gleison Tibau at UFC 184, Tibau's first submission loss in six and a half years.
As for Thomson, continued injury issues have kept him out of the cage for the better part of the last year, and he'll try to get back on track both physically and in the division in this fight. After an exciting win over Nate Diaz in his UFC return in 2013, Thomson dropped fights to Benson Henderson and Bobby Green in back to back fights last year.
