Former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit is getting ready for his return to action this spring, and while in Vegas for UFC 183 on Saturday, he updated his current status.
"I don't have a fight booked, but I already have a target date. I want to get into the card in May here in Vegas," Condit told media members in Las Vegas on Saturday night (via BloodyElbow.com). "I don't think the headliner has been announced, but that's my timeline. Rehab has been long and tedious but I'm back and I'm training at 100%."
Condit is hoping to get back into the title picture at 170 lbs., and he expects there to be some changing of the guard several times over at the top end of the division.
"It's exciting," he said of the state of the division. "There's so many guys that look so good, I think that the belt might change hands quite a bit in a year or so... Rory (MacDonald) looks really good."
Penick's Analysis: Georges St-Pierre's exit and Johny Hendricks losing to Robbie Lawler has opened things up wide in this division. There are several guys who could work into title contention, and who make for interesting matchups for Lawler - or someone else - in title fights. Condit could be right there with a win or two upon his return, so that's added motivation for him to return strong from the knee injury he suffered last year.
