Thales Leites is heading home with an extra $100,000 after Saturday's UFC 183 event, as he won two bonuses for his second round submission win over Tim Boetsch on the card in Las Vegas.
Leites took home one of the "Performance of the Night" bonuses, and also earned a bonus as one half of the "Fight of the Night" with Boetsch.
The two middleweights got into quite the wild brawl through the first seven minutes of the fight, and it got Leites into some trouble as Boetsch was connecting on several big exchanges. Leites finally realized that wasn't his best path to victory, and he took Boetsch to the ground. From there, his edge there was clear, and he fairly effortlessly worked to lock on a choke. Boetsch fought out of the first attempt, but Leites transitioned to the other side and choked Boetsch out cold.
The night's other "Performance of the Night" bonus went to Thiago Alves, who pulled off a fairly incredible comeback after getting beat up by Jordan Mein in the first round. Alves came out with a ton of fire in the second, and landed a nasty body kick to Mein that collapsed him against the cage. Alves followed up with a relentless assault which forced the referee to step in.
