In some slightly disappointing news, it appears the Jose Aldo-Conor McGregor fight for the UFC Featherweight Championship won't happen on Memorial Day weekend.
According to McGregor's coach, John Kavanagh, in an interview with Newstalk Breakfast, the fight is likely not happening until "mid-summer."
"It's not 100 percent yet," said Kavanagh. "There was talk of a May date. It may now actually be later in the year."
"I get a lot of tweets and messages, people wanting to book their flights. I would just say hold on, hold on until the UFC officially announce. It's not confirmed yet."
Kavanagh says the fight is still expected for Las Vegas, which would suggest the UFC is now targeting their July 11 card during International Fight Week for that fight.
Penick's Analysis: It would be a bummer for that fight to be delayed, but considering the theme of "International Fight Week" in Las Vegas, that's a fantastic fight to have that weekend. Perhaps the UFC will send Jon Jones-Anthony Johnson to the Memorial Day weekend card; in fact, that probably works out well for all at this point.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
