Saturday's UFC on Fox 14 event brought the UFC's second-highest ever live attendance for a UFC event, and drew the largest live gate for a UFC event in Europe.
According to David Lee, the UFC's General Manager of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, during the post-fight press conference, the event drew 30,000 fans to the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm for a live gate of $3.1 million.
The announced attendance is much higher than the 26,000 revealed during the night's broadcast on Fox, but Lee said they featured walk up ticket sales throughout the night that boosted that number.
Regardless, outside of the 55,000 attendees at UFC 129 in Toronto, the UFC's previous best attendance had been 23,152 for UFC 124 in Montreal. The $3.1 million gate is the UFC's second over $3 million this month, as UFC 182 brought $3.7 million in Las Vegas.
Penick's Analysis: Whether it's 26,000 or 30,000, they got that many people to come out to an event that didn't end until 4AM local time. It was an entertaining one, though disheartening to the home crowd when Alexander Gustafsson got busted up and lost in the first round to Anthony Johnson. Still, the numbers are very good for this one, and obviously the lower gate with larger attendance compared to UFC 182 is simply indicative of cheaper ticket prices for this event.
