Jon Jones has a dangerous challenge ahead of him later this year, as Anthony "Rumble" Johnson punched his way to a title fight on Saturday night at UFC on Fox 14.
Johnson's resurgent UFC run reached new heights on Saturday, as he destroyed Alexander Gustafsson, quieting a crowd of more than 26,000 in Stockholm in the process.
The fight started fairly evenly, with Gustafsson scoring from the outside. However, after an inadvertent eye poke from Gustafsson brought a brief stop to the action, Johnson came out in a fury, hurting Gustafsson and following up with an unrelenting attack.
He got Gustafsson down to the ground, and though the Swede tried to turtle up and somewhat defend himself, most of Johnson's strikes were getting through. After a fairly sustained attack, a couple of hard uppercuts under Gustafsson's arm popped his head back, forcing the referee to step in.
It's the first time ever that Gustafsson's been stopped by strikes, while Johnson goes into a title fight against Jones on a nine fight winning streak, with three major wins in the UFC to his credit since returning.
