Benson Henderson isn't wasting any time trying to get himself back on track, as he's stepping in for an injured Bobby Green to face Jorge Masvidal on the UFC Fight Night card in Fairfax, Va., on April 4.
The UFC confirmed the switch on Thursday via FoxSports.com.
Henderson dropped a controversial three round decision to Donald Cerrone last weekend at UFC Fight Night 59, with shock hitting both fighters' faces when the scores were read. For the first time in his career, it means two straight losses, and he'll try to turn things around against Masvidal.
Masvidal, a former Bellator and Strikeforce competitor, has had a very good run in the UFC thus far, winning five of six fights, including his last three. In his most recent outing, he defeated James Krause by decision at UFC 178.
The Fight Night main card from Fairfax will kick off on Fox Sports 1 starting at 1PM ET, and will be headlined by the featherweight bout between Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas.
Penick's Analysis: That's one hell of a replacement opponent. Henderson shouldn't have lost that decision to Cerrone, but now he's got added motivation to win and win in style. It's also a step up in competition for Masvidal, who has been hovering in the middle of the pack for a bit and gets a chance to leap into the top 15. Really good fight.
