After submitting Mitch Gagnon at UFC Fight Night 58 on Saturday night, Renan Barao is targeting the rematch with T.J. Dillashaw he was supposed to have in August.
He got thrown off track after a bad weight cut forced him out of the UFC 177 event, leading to some negative comments from Dillashaw. With the win on Saturday, Barao has a message for the Champ.
"I have one thing to say: I want my belt back," Barao said in the cage via the translator following his win. "Dillashaw, I have two gifts for you, my left hand and my right hand. I'm going to shut up your mouth."
Dillashaw's got Dominick Cruz ahead of him next, but a win could set up the title rematch between the two.
Penick's Analysis: Barao took a bit to get into a rhythm against Gagnon, and so it seemed a bit more competitive than expected for much of the fight. That said, he turned it up late, and was clearly the better fighter anyway. The win was necessary for Barao to even have a conversation about getting his belt back, but he's probably going to need another win anyway just given the timing of the next title fight, which won't happen until March at the earliest.
