With the UFC's new deal with Reebok, the organization's Champions are being given the opportunity to negotiate their own separate endorsement deals with Reebok as well. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey are the latest to secure theirs, as both announced this week that they've come to terms with Reebok.
The two join Anthony Pettis and Johny Hendricks, who secured their deals with Reebok prior to UFC 181 earlier this month. Both spoke to UFC.com about their deals yesterday, here are a couple of snippets:
Rousey: "From the very beginning, it was clear to me that Reebok is passionately invested in our sport and its athletes. The team is committed to helping push our sport forward and I am proud to be part of it. Reebok understands what tough fitness means for women and what women need for their fitness lifestyle. Together we're going to inspire even more people to train like fighters."
Jones: "Reebok is working with UFC to take the sport to the next level. It's going to be an amazing journey and I'm incredibly proud to be a part of it. The brand has a great history in fitness and training, and that comes through in everything they do. What I'm particularly excited about is that the input of the fighters is going to drive the product innovation, which will ensure all athletes, whether they are fighting for a world championship or just to be fit, will have the very best gear."
Penick's Analysis: Jones, Rousey, Pettis, Hendricks, and the rest of the Champions in the organizations are more than likely going to make out very well under this new Reebok deal. While Demetrious Johnson expressed his concerns yesterday, when he sits down with Reebok to negotiate his own deal, he's likely to be happy with his situation. It's the rest of the roster that may not be so pleased when it all gets implemented.
