The class-action lawsuit being filed against the UFC is being headed up by Cung Le, Jon Fitch, and Nate Quarry, it was announced this afternoon.
More details are still to come, but the suit is alleging that the UFC has violated the Sherman Antitrust act by illegally scheming to eliminate competition.
According to Brent Brookhouse at BloodyElbow.com, the primary law firms involved are Joseph Saveri Law Firm, Inc, Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll, PLLC, and Berger & Montague, P.C.
The three men named are just the first, and not only, participants in this suit. Per Brookhouse's report, this will be open to "All persons who competed in one or more live professional UFC-promoted MMA bouts taking place or broadcast in the United States during the Class Period. The Bout Class excludes all persons who are not residents or citizens of the United States unless the UFC paid such persons for competing in a bout fought in the United States."
Penick's Analysis: This press conference will kick off shortly, and we'll have more to say on it in the days to come, but at first glance they've got some serious anti-trust firms in play here, who have gotten big results against much bigger fish than the UFC.
