Despite repenting in front of the Nevada Athletic Commission over their August press conference brawl, Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier expressed a different take altogether on Saturday's UFC on Fox 13 broadcast.
In a joint interview with Joe Rogan on the broadcast, both fighters said they probably wouldn't do anything differently if it happened again.
"You know what, I think I would have," Jones responded when asked by Rogan (transcribed by MMAFighting.com). "I've been in many staredowns and I've never had my throat grabbed. A guy grabbed my throat and I had to stand my ground and let him know that I won't put up with nonsense like that. So, I think I'd do it again."
"Well, if he were to do that again, yeah," Cormier said when asked the same question. "In the knowing that he would have probably come at me, I would have probably smacked him upside his head instead of just pushing him away from me."
Penick's Analysis: Obviously they're more keen to respond differently than they did in front of the commission, because the punishment's already been handed out for what happened in August. Still, this is probably more in line with how they really feel about the situation than their responses to the commission. They reacted in the heat of the moment, and though it was far from the best way to react, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were to happen again.
